CAL ARTS INAUGURAL LATIN FEST 2018
2/13/TU
PROGRAM FOR 1ST HALF OF  PERFORMANCE

"I am playing my huehuetl,
I who hunt for songs to awaken and fire our friends whose hearts lie listless,
for whom the day does not yet break-
those who sleep in comas,
those who glory in gloomy night when the flowering dawn already sings her song
and when once again morn lightens the place where huehuetls play “

the poem XOPAN CUICATL
from
CANTARES EN IDIOMA MEXICANO

RESONANCIA is a multi media presentation of instruments,
dance, poetry and regalia of the peoples of Mesoamerica
and their legacy.

Despite the genocide of tens of millions of indigenous Americans
from 1492 thru the present, the people continue, albeit in a different
inflection and reflection of who they were, who they are and who they
will become. The "red and black" continues to run through our veins,

We continue to be surrounded by ancestral footprints thru anthropology,
archaeology, culture, DNA, food, language, music, philosophy, sound, spirituality
and thought in the present, and beyond any and all imposed borders and walls (real and perceived)

In 1979, I attended CAL ARTS on a full scholarship, I was one of 3
"latinos/hispanics" or whatever they were calling us then.

Presently in 2018, there are now over 150 "latinos/hispanics" at CAL ARTS
or whatever they are calling us now.

Change is sometimes slow,
and sometimes imperceptible
but change is..........
