CULTURE, HISTORY AND INSTRUMENTS OF
INDIGENOUS MEXICO/MESOAMERICA PRESENTATION
presented by Garcia

INFORMANCE/OFRENDAS
which have been presented throughout THE AMERICAS

Garcia was invited  by Malik Sow to participate in the 43 million dollar reopening of the
MUSIC CENTER PLAZA and FOUNTAIN in Los Angeles, CA., USA IN 2020

120 drummers were there representing the drumming traditions of
ASIA
LATIN AMERICA
CAL ARts
AFRICA

Garcia was invited by drummer Malik Sow,
representing the drumming traditions of Africa
to play a tlapan huehuetl
(MEXICA/AZTECA) drum of THE AMERICAS)
originally from the MAYAN tradition
and going back to 790 A.D.
(see pics for additional info)

unfortunately,
Garcia was the only drummer invited there to represent the
indigenous drumming traditions of THE AMERICAs

not at the behest of THE MUSIC CENTER,
but at the behest of drummer Malik Sow

SIDENOTE
while most of the world is familiar with drums and drumming traditions of
AFRICA
ASIA
LATIN AMERICA
few have seen and/or heard or EXPERIENCED the drumming traditions of
MESOAMERICA
even though the instruments continue to be played by thousands of modern day practitioners
