TASHA SMITH GODINEZ
ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT
https://www.eventbrite.com/.../album-release-concert-a...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This marks the 2nd recording released
under Tasha's name
of her original compositions
when we first started working,
like a lot of classical players,
she did not compose
and
she did not improvise
we did our first concert at the
SAN DIEGO HARP FESTIVAL
@
EL CASTILLO de CHAPULTEPEC
in
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO in 2016
specifically my compositions for
INDIGENOUS INSTRUMENTS OF MESOAMERICA and MEXICO
and pedal harp, and we kept working
kept giving her more places to improvise
before and during the compositions
and introduced her to the music of lots of musicians
and started playing pieces by each of them
which of course,
led to improvisation
e.g.,
John Bergamo
Chick Corea
Egberto Gismonti
Jose Gurria
John McLaughlin
Violeta Parra
Joaquin Rodrigo
Atahualpa Yupanqui
one step at a time
she LISTENED
she LEARNED
she WORKED
she dove right in
and the more we played,
the more confident she became in pursuing her muse
not only within the context of other composers music
but in composing her own music,
cultivating and nurturing her own music
you can check out recordings of music she played
by other composers as well as her own
at the link below
"The truth is that the role that Michael Manring
has developed in MANRING GARCIA MUSIC
where he must exacerbate his extraterrestrial
talent around the percussions of Christopher Garcia....
a gifted composer and great performer,
García combines timbre of pre-Hispanic Mexico with
traditional languages of India and Africa, all at the service
of an ecumenical, enjoyable speech,
aimed at sharing what Manring said in the past:
"Now that we live extraordinary times,
drastic measures are required to achieve something relevant.
I want to be able to open my mind to new possibilities,
to seek beauty not yet discovered. "
BEMOL SOSTENIDO
The trio does not “feature” anyone, but rather, features the trio
and the music. Each member has a distinct voice and a
masterful approach and (most importantly to me) the whole
of the trio never overpowers the music.
When I come across trios like this (3 virtuosos collaborating)
I often find, to my dismay, that in an attempt to really showcase
the band, the music takes a back-seat. NOT so here.
These guys have put this music first and foremost and therefore
have developed some of the most “musical” music I’ve heard in some
time (if you know what I mean?).
This is the best group effort I’ve ever heard with Michael
The music is inventive, but never over -the-top or “for musicians only”.
The playing is spectacular. Just incredible. I almost forgot how wonderful
Manring can be within the context of a group."
BASS MUSICIAN MAGAZINE
“Garcia can embrace anything from fusion to indigenous music…..
he does it sitting on the floor before his worldwide
array of drums and percussion instruments(sounding like a
full kit while floorbound!)
he locates the common ground between bebop and Mayan ceremony….
and transits abstract rhythms into a whisking groove, which like magic
becomes a mystical drone…………..”
