CAL ARTS LATIN FEST
as special musical guest with
MEXICO ATEMPORAL

For the last few years any time I have had performances in Mexico City, Guanajuato or San Miguel de Allende
I have been very fortunate to have Ramiro R Duarte (formerly of GRUPO TRIBU)
lend me his tlapan huehuetl, huehuetl and/or teponaztli for performances
and any time he comes to Los Angeles I am able to do the same for him

unfortunately the last few years, the stars have not lined up and we have not had time to sit
across from eachother and have, at least, a cup of coffee

but in 2019, the stars lined up and he was able to join
MEXICO ATEMPORAL
mexicoatemporalmusic.weebly.com/

with Pablo Lenero Archer and myself
at the CAL ARTS LATIN FEST 2019
www.performingartslive.com/Events/MEXICO-ATEMPORAL-LATIN-FEST-California-Institute-of-the-ARTs

with RAMIRO R DUARTE
@

HERB ALPERT RECITAL HALL

and then later in the same week a duo performance with just the two of us at

HERB AND LANI ALPERT RECITAL HALL in Los Angeles, CA USA

the first 2 pieces were "fixed"
and everything else was improvised

we explored very different time signatures for improvising
5/4
7/8
19/16
etc.,

as well as every possible dynamic and instruments we had at our disposal
including s STEINWAY grand piano as a resonator for Atecocolli, teponaztli etc.,
it was described by the VIDEO ANGEL,
Tom Bartolac,
who has documented over 4,000 performances as "the best indigenous concert I have ever experienced"
